EcoFlow Delta review: what is this portable energy station worth?

One of the most representative models of the manufacturer's range of portable solar power stations, the Ecoflow Delta is the eco-friendly and practical alternative to traditional electric generators. Compact, but very powerful and versatile, it is the perfect ally for off-grid living, but also for emergency power at home. We've put it through its paces in a real-life test and here's what you need to know about it.

Introducing the EcoFlow Delta Energy Station

With the two side handles integrated into its design, the EcoFlow Delta has the appearance of a small metal cooler. Measuring 40 cm long, 21 cm wide and 27 cm high, and weighing only 14 kg, this mini power station is easy to carry and store.

But don't be fooled by its small size. This portable solar generator has enough power and autonomy to power a dozen devices simultaneously. This is what the technical data sheet of the device promises, but also its wide range of connections.

EcoFlow Delta Energy Station Features

EcoFlow Delta Energy Station Features

In order to objectively evaluate this solar generator, let's take a closer look at its main features.

Current output power

Contrary to what its dimensions might suggest, the EcoFlow Delta plays in the big league by delivering a nominal power of 1800W which can be pushed up to 3300W in peak thanks to the X-boost function.

With such power, this portable solar generator can validly run several common low power electrical appliances and household appliances (lamps, PC, TV, blender, etc.) simultaneously, but also more powerful appliances, such as toaster, hair dryer, coffee maker or even an electric vehicle.

Motorhomers will particularly appreciate this small, powerful power station that goes much further than many of its competitors of equivalent size.

Also ideal as a backup solution for home power supply, the EcoFlow Delta is also very useful for DIY enthusiasts and professionals. Its characteristics allow it to run for a few hours tools that are usually considered energy-hungry: circular saw, welder, bench grinder, etc.

For example, on a full charge, the EcoFlow Delta can power a 150W refrigerator for 7 to 10 hours, a 110W TV for 12 to 16 hours, or recharge a 3A smartphone over 100 times.

Moreover, thanks to its numerous outputs, it is possible to operate/charge several of these devices simultaneously as long as the total maximum power supported is not exceeded.

11 electrical current outputs

Distributed between the front and rear of the generator, the EcoFlow Delta's current outputs are 11 in number:

  • 1 car output ;
  • 2 USB-A ports of 12W max each;
  • 4 alternating current outputs of 230V each;
  • 2 USB-A ports of 18W each for fast charging;
  • 2 x 60W USB-C outputs per port for ultra fast charging.

Thanks to the latter, the EcoFlow Delta can fully play its role and power recent devices, such as smartphones and tablets of the latest generation, as well as most common household appliances. The presence of an output for recharging an electric vehicle is also a real asset of this model.

3 possible ways to recharge the Ecoflow Delta

For optimal use, EcoFlow allows you to recharge your mobile energy stations in several different ways. This is the case with the EcoFlow Delta which is able to accumulate power:

  • Via the AC port by plugging the unit into a wall socket;
  • Via the DC port using solar panels.
  • Via the cigarette lighter, with the 12V car adapter.

The fastest charging mode is clearly the first one. It allows you to fill up in 1h40 minutes. Even better, for urgent needs, this charging mode offers up to 80% of the total battery capacity in less than an hour. These performances make it one of the portable electric power stations with the highest recharging speed on the market.

That said, solar charging is not too slow either. With this charging mode, it is indeed possible to go from 0 to 100% in 4 hours on average with three 110W solar panels. As for recharging from a car, count on a little less than 10 hours. Although slower, this option is very interesting for travelers.

A long-lasting battery

The EcoFlow Delta is equipped with a 1260 Wh lithium-ion battery that offers a comfortable range. Whether it is to ensure the relay following a failure of domestic current, for an activity in the open air or for professional work.

The manufacturer also guarantees the reliability of its batteries, as well as their longevity. For this model, it thus promises until 800 cycles before going down to 80 %.

A secured management system

Like all quality lithium-ion batteries, the EcoFlow Delta features the BMS function, which offers optimal protection against overvoltage, overcharge, overtemperature, short circuit, voltage drop, overcurrent and low temperature.

Strengths and Weaknesses of the EcoFlow Delta Energy Station

Based on our observations, here are the main strengths and weaknesses of this portable solar generator.

  • Its power;
  • Its large capacity ;
  • Its speed of recharging ;
  • Its numerous and varied connections;
  • Its BMS function.

  • Not compatible with the EcoFlow mobile application;
  • The absence of wireless charging;
  • Its weight.

Our final opinion on the EcoFlow Delta

Camping, outdoor parties, road trips or simply as a home power source, the EcoFlow Delta is ready to meet all your needs in terms of backup power. Practical and powerful, its recharging speed and its numerous connections are undeniable assets. It's a shame, however, that it cannot be controlled remotely with the EcoFlow mobile application.

For the rest, there is very little to reproach to this portable solar electric power station that we recommend you without hesitation.
