Ecoflow Delta 2 review: does this portable power station deserve its reputation?

The Ecoflow Delta 2 portable battery is an entry-level model of the Delta family (the most powerful) from Ecoflow. Its power, its autonomy as well as its numerous outputs make it ideal for the followers of the road-trip and the campers. But it can also be used as a backup power source at home. Discover here our complete test, as well as our opinion on this electric station.

Presentation of the Ecoflow Delta 2

The Ecoflow Delta 2 is a rectangular electrical station of 12 kg with dimensions of 40 x 21.1 x 28.1 cm. Its compact and sober casing is two-tone: a grey upper part and a shiny black plastic lower part.

The grey part has ventilation grills (front and back), as well as two handles on the sides. These make it easier to carry the device, but make the battery a little more bulky and a little difficult to lift with one hand.

The input and output sockets are located on both sides (right and left) of the device. The small LCD touch screen on one of these sides overcomes the sockets located there. The good news is that the small size of the screen does not affect the visibility of the information displayed.

The stability of the portable power station is reinforced by black non-slip rubber pads.

Features of the Ecoflow Delta 2 portable battery

Vue de l’extérieur, la Delta 2 est plutôt pratique et élégante. Mais qu’en est-il de ses fonctionnalités ?

Power and autonomy

Features of the Ecoflow Delta 2 portable battery

The capacity is increased by adding other batteries in series : an additional Delta 2 to reach 2000 Wh and a Delta Max to reach 3000 Wh.

If you are satisfied with the 1024 Wh, you can already power :

  • A 10 Watt lamp for 31 hours;
  • A 120 Watt refrigerator from 7 to 14 hours;
  • A smartphone at 100% charge 89 times;
  • Un frigo de voiture de 60 watts pendant 16 à 32 heures.

By increasing to 3000 Wh, the possibilities are really wide!

Connectivity

The Ecoflow Delta 2 portable energy station has 13 output ports :

  • 4 x 230V AC (direct current) outlets equivalent to domestic wall outlets;
  • 2 DC (direct current) 5521 2 x 12,6 v 3A up to 38W for energy consuming devices such as household appliances and DIY devices;
  • 2 x USB type-A outlets (2 x 5V/2.4A; i.e. 12W Max per port) for multimedia devices such as smartphones and tablets;
  • 2 USB type-A plugs with fast charging (5V 2.4A/9V 2A/12V 1.5A) i.e. 18W max per port) ;
  • 2 USB type-C plugs (up to 20V and 5A, i.e. 100W per port), especially for computers compatible with USB C (MacBook for example);

In addition, there is a 126W cigarette lighter connector (12.6V/10A max).

Battery and EPS function

The Ecoflow Delta 2 battery is designed with LifePO4 technology. While older lithium-ion batteries have 500 charge cycles, this one has 3000. This means that it needs to be recharged at least 3000 times before it loses 20% of its nominal (original) capacity. This means that the battery life is much longer than that of older lithium-ion batteries.

LiFePO4 (LFP) technology also protects the battery from overheating with its BMS protection bases.

The EPS (Emergency Power Supply) function is useful during power outages. It allows the electrical station to take over automatically.

Fast charging

Ecoflow gives you the possibility to charge your electric station in three different ways:

  • Mains/domestic power outlet (useful for home use);
  • Using the cigarette lighter (very practical for roadtrippers);
  • Using solar panels (green and economical recharge).

Thanks to the X-stream technology developed by Ecoflow, the battery is recharged to more than 80% of its capacity in 50 minutes. Count on about 30 minutes more for a full charge.

A small caveat: this charging speed is only valid with a domestic electrical outlet. The use of solar panels or the cigarette lighter significantly extends the charging time.

LCD touch screen

The touch screen located on one of the sides of the generator allows detailed monitoring of the operation of the device: temperature, consumption, remaining autonomy, input and output data in watts and Wh. It also displays error codes in case of malfunction.

Ecoflow application

Ecoflow delta 2 control monitor mobile application

Available on iOS and Android, the Ecoflow mobile app is the remote control tool for the electrical station. To install it, simply scan the QR code present in the documentation or under your battery.

The connection of the device to the app is done via Bluetooth or wifi. However, the range is reduced when using Bluetooth technology.

Once established, the connection gives access to information about the charge and discharge data, the autonomy and the current consumption.

Strengths and weaknesses of the device

The pluses

  • Its fast charging system ;
  • Its wide and varied connectivity;
  • Its scalable charging capacity;
  • Its intelligent management via the Ecoflow application;
  • Its safe and long-lasting LiFePO4 battery;
  • EPS function for continuous power supply even in case of power failure.

The minuses

  • Its case without central handle ;
  • Its slower charging with solar panels or cigarette lighter.

Our final opinion on the Ecoflow Delta 2 portable battery

The Ecoflow Delta 2 electric station combines design, power and practicality. Its scalable charging capacity allows it to adapt to your needs: mobile energy source or home power station. Its touch screen and mobile app make it easy to use and control remotely.

Finally, if you use it as a back-up power source, its EPS function allows it to automatically take over in case of a power cut. With such assets, the Ecoflow Delta 2 generator fulfills expectations and is one of the best solar portable power stations on the market.
