A mid-range portable power station from Munich-based PowerOak, the Bluetti EB70 is widely touted as the ideal ally for camping enthusiasts. Designed to combine power, discretion and great mobility, this generator seems to have everything to please. But does it really meet expectations? To answer this question objectively, we have tested this large format power bank and here is our detailed opinion about it.
Presentation of the Bluetti EB70 portable electric generator
The Bluetti EB70 is a portable solar powered energy generator. It is designed to provide sufficient backup power to run small appliances and recharge several electronic devices simultaneously.
Compact (320 x 216 x 221 mm) and relatively light (9.7 kg), it is easy to carry and can be installed in small spaces without taking up much space. In order to facilitate its transport, it is equipped with a small solid and foldable handle.
In appearance, this portable solar generator looks like a small black rectangle with a polycarbonate case, whose edges are rounded. The back of the device is uncluttered, bearing only the manufacturer's mark. All ports and plugs are installed in the front. This allows you to charge several devices simultaneously without the cables getting tangled.
What are the characteristics of the Bluetti EB70?
In order to evaluate the Bluetti EB70 portable solar generator, let's take a look at its main features and functionality.
Despite its compact size, this portable power station is very powerful, with a maximum electrical power rating of 1,000 Watts and a peak power of up to 1,400 Watts.
With such power, this generator can power a kettle or a fan heater, for example. It can therefore validly accompany campers and other outdoor enthusiasts, but also serve as a backup power supply in case of power failure at home.
10 power outputs
With the Bluetti EB70 portable electric generator, you have the possibility to power most of your appliances if you find yourself in a situation where you do not have access to electrical energy. In the event of a power outage or inability to access electrical power, the device will be able to power nearly 80% of your electrical equipment.
This small power station has 10 different power outputs:
- 2x 230 V AC sockets (in the EU version) that deliver the same current as the one coming out of the domestic wall sockets;
- 2x USB-A (USB 3.0) 5V/3A ports that deliver 15 Watts of power;
- 2x USB-C ports delivering a maximum power of 100 Watts;
- 2x regulated DC outputs 12 V/10A ;
- 1x regulated automotive port (cigarette lighter) 12V/10A ;
- 1x wireless charging unit of 15 W.
With such a configuration, the Bluetti EB70 can therefore quickly charge one or more devices simultaneously, including the most recent ones, as long as the power deployed does not exceed the maximum tolerated by this station (1,000 Watts, or even 1,400 Watts for peak power).
Within the framework of this test, we have tested, alone or with others, a variety of devices:
- Smartphones and tablets;
- Television set;
- Small fan;
- Heated blanket;
- Microwave oven;
- Small electric stove, etc.
LED torch for night lighting with 3 modes
This portable solar power station also has a built-in LED lamp that provides a powerful light that can be dimmed to one of the following 3 modes with a small switch:
- Full Bright mode, for perfect lighting in case of power failure or outdoor night use;
- Half Bright mode for controlled lighting so as not to scare animals at night for example;
- SOS flash mode to send distress signals;
Autonomy, Recharge and Battery Performance
The Bluetti EB70 portable generator has a LIFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) type battery incorporated into its structure. More stable, and above all more durable than a lithium battery, it offers a number of charge/discharge cycles 4 times higher before a drop in performance.
In this case, the LiFePO4 battery of the Bluetti EB70 offers up to 2,700 recharge cycles before dropping to 80%. This is equivalent to an optimal use of more than 10 years. In real use, it is difficult to imagine this battery being used up.
As for autonomy, each full charge allows you to enjoy the 716W for an average of 3 hours.
To recharge the battery of the Bluetti EB70 portable electric generator, the manufacturer offers the choice between 3 charging modes:
- La recharge sur secteur, avec le courant alternatif de 200 W via l’entrée d’alimentation avec un temps de recharge moyen de 4,5 heures ;
- Recharging via the car cigarette lighter 12/24 V with a recharge time varying between 4.5 and 7.5 hours;
- Recharging with a solar panel with an input power of 200 W marketed by Bluetti.
The Bluetti EB70 electric generator is equipped with a small LCD screen that provides information on the rate of energy input and output in real time, as well as the state of charge of the battery. This allows you to follow in real time the rate of consumption of the energy stored in the battery, and avoids suddenly running out of battery.
It should be noted, however, that the device does not provide the exact charge level of the battery, but rather increments of 20% (20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%).
Energy saving mode
The Bluetti EB70 solar portable station has an optional eco mode that reduces the rate of power consumption of the device and extends its battery life.
Also, as soon as the battery reaches a certain percentage, the generator switches to eco mode.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of the Bluetti EB70?
- Its good power rating;
- Its long life battery;
- Its compact size;
- Its 3 fast charging modes;
- Its LCD screen to follow the charge;
- Its 10 current outputs to power several devices.
- Its fan is a bit noisy
- The lack of precision in the charge information provided
Our final opinion on the Bluetti EB70 portable electric generator
Compact, powerful and efficient! These are three words that could summarize our opinion on the Bluetti EB70.
Easy to carry and store, this portable power station is powerful and versatile enough to fully meet the needs of all types of outdoor activities, with its 10 power outputs. Moreover, its LiFePO4 battery guarantees a long and safe use; major assets for this type of equipment.
In addition, there are convenient charging modes, as well as a useful LCD screen and LED light.
Given its many advantages, and considering its selling price, the Bluetti EB70 is, in our opinion, an excellent investment.
